IAN JACOB
REFRESHING • VIBRANT • INGENIOUS

These are just a few words to describe the bold execution, the vibrant palette and the innovative use of mixed media in Ian Jacob’s work based on the landscape of his native Pembrokeshire.

His work is included in public collections such as the Arts Council of Wales and the Museum of Modern Art, Wales.

Trained at Newport College of Art, Gloucestershire College of Art and Design and Goldsmiths College, London, Ian is known for his use of experimental, often ground breaking techniques. Computer imaging and the application of unconventional materials such as enamel paint, Perspex, iron filings and even diamond dust add an element of mystery and surprise. His avant-garde bravery to embrace innovation is balanced perfectly with his profound grasp of colour within his compositions that resonates with the great British tradition of landscape painting, albeit with a diverse twist.

Influenced by life experiences in idiosyncratic disguises together with his admiration for great artists such as the technical genius of Andy Warhol, Graham Sutherland’s Pembrokeshire inspired landscapes and the black and white beach nude studies of photographer Bill Brandt.

Cutting edge and aesthetically wondrous, each of his pieces are meticulously conceived and refined to perfection. Each a conversation piece, not in the classical sense but in a contemporary one, drawing intrigue deeper as they alter and oscillate with every passing moment of light shift.

This selling exhibition, showcasing over 30 of his latest works, highlights Ian’s revolutionary collection of mixed media constructions and marks his valuable contribution to the ever changing world of contemporary art.
